Joan Farrell

Joan Moore Farrell, 85, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, died on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 in Phoenixville, PA. She moved to the area last year from North Palm Beach Gardens, FL where she resided for 19 years.

Born on June 28, 1934 in Morris Plains, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Katherine (Lancaster) Moore. Joan attended Rosemont College in PA and then worked as an underwriter for New York Life Insurance Company for several years before devoting herself to raising her family. Joan enjoyed crossword puzzles, tennis, painting, baseball games, dancing and the ocean. She contributed to her community through her work with the League of Women Voters and local environmental projects.

She was married to Edward J. Farrell from 1959 until his death in 1994 and is survived by their four children; Breege A. Farrell, Julia F. Hurle and her husband Mark, John L. Farrell, and Thomas E. Farrell and his wife Genevieve Kocienda and six grandchildren; Katherine G. Farrell, Emma J. Farrell, Robert J. Farrell, Kimberly E. Farrell, Joan C. Hurle, and Jason M. L. Hurle and by her sister, Anne M. Moore as well as her nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her brother, Thomas F. Moore.

A service in celebration of Joan’s life is planned for 11:00 am, Saturday, November 30, at Main Line Unitarian Church in Devon, PA.  All are welcome.  Please contact Breege for details.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
