Mildred May Kruper

Mildred M. (Grimley) Kruper, 78, wife of the late Philip D. Kruper of Phoenixville, PA passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in Paoli Hospital.

Born on October 31, 1946, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Mildred M. (Hess) Grimley.

Mildred worked as a NICU Nurse at Bryn Mawr Hospital for over 20 years. She easily fell in love with the tiny babies and soon began designing, never-before-used in that hospital, swaddling gowns to provide the babies with a feeling of security. She made watercolor portraits of many babies and accompanied the paintings with short poems for their parents. All those years she worked the midnight shift watching the monitors, holding the tiny hands, and administered needed medicines or care. She filled a notebook of poems about the babies she cared so much about, accompanying many with small sketches.

Early on she enjoyed cross stitch, watercolor painting, and shopping. Later the new joy, quilting, and searching for the perfect cloth, fed her constant need to create something that brought smiles to faces and beauty to her surroundings. Milly’s smile and laughter were infectious; they spread from person to person.

She is survived by two daughters: Stefanie Mattina and Allison, wife of Chris Morris.

Three grandchildren will greatly miss her: Samantha Mattina, Charlie Morris, and Abigail Morris.

Brother, John Grimley, and sisters, Joane, wife of Ron Eby, and Dr. Margot Grimley know they will constantly think of her and her enveloping love for them.

Her beloved four-legged treasures, Gracie, Georgie, and Lucy, were her delight during these last difficult and painful months, and she was so thankful to the families who have adopted them.

Milly was a prime example of positivity. She was not naïve about the state of things around her, but each day was a day to be lived, and she pushed forward with a smile.
