Martha J. Blea

Martha J. (McHugh) Blea, 88 of Phoenixville, PA passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday morning, January 20, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Myrtle (Pass) McHugh and was born on October 24, 1935 in Phoenixville, PA .

She was a lifelong resident of Phoenixville and had three children, the late Richard Cage, Jacqueline Mittnacht (wife of the late Charles Mittnacht). and the late Louis Blea.  In addition, she was the grandmother to four grandchildren, Charles Jr. "Chip" husband of Amanda Mittnacht, Tyler husband of Stephanie Mittnacht, Adam Mittnacht, and Drew Mittnacht; and four great-grandchildren, Julian, Theodore, Harvey, and Jesse; as well as the aunt to many neices and nephews. 

Martha was a hairdresser in Pottstown and Phoenixville, and eventually retired as a homemaker and mother to serve her family during her later years. She was an avid supporter of the SPCA and advocated for the fostering of homeless cats.  The pets she has left behind, 'Honeybuns' and 'Snuggles', will miss her dearly.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends and community members, who loved her graciously until her passing. She also loved a rich dessert, with good friends.

Through it all, her greatest pride and happiness were her children and grandchildren.  From printers to mechanics, architects to engineers, and teachers, her succeeding generations will be a testament to the love and kindness she invested in her family her whole life. As she became older, her stories became their stories and she took great pleasure in watching them grow and develop into the people they are today. Through them, her light will continue to shine.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff, nurses, and aides that aided our family in helping our grandmother fulfill her life wishes. The amount of care, compassion, and love they showed our grandmother was outstanding.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing at the Devlin - Gatcha Funeral Home, 517 Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.  A Service will be held at 6:00 pm. Dessert and coffee are open to family and close friends following the service at her grandson's home.
