Mark William Madsen, 70, of Phoenixville, PA passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his wife and children on Monday, August 24, 2026.
He was born on February 6, 1956 in Garden City, MI to the late Robert H. and Catherine A. (Norton) Madsen. When he was ten years old he moved with his family to Phoenixville, PA. There he attended Phoenixville Area High School and met his wife Barbara (Valko) whom he lovingly referred to as “B”. Mark and Barbara shared almost 47 years of marriage and had seven children together.
Mark worked as a pressman at the Evening Phoenix, USA Today, and then at the Mercury for over twenty years. He was a lifelong music lover which spanned from playing the guitar to collecting vinyl records, arguably too many to fit in the house. His passion for music was one of the biggest things he passed down to his children, particularly a love for the Beatles. Mark was a deep thinker and had an insatiable curiosity for a wide range of subjects.
In more recent years Mark spent his time with his loving wife Barbara, his 7 children: Stephanie L., wife of Erik Frock; Kristen M., fiancé of Andrew Miller; Bradley J., husband of Jacqueline (Harley); Ryan R.; Aaron M., partner of Kelly Oswald; Michelle N., wife of Stephen Recchilongo Jr.; Rebecca A., wife of Joseph Lord Jr.; and 7 grandchildren: Gabriel, Charlotte, Mark, Frank, Danica, Joshy and Molly.
He is survived by his brothers: Paul Madsen husband of Gale, John Madsen; his sister: Karen Bilyk; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister: Christine Lowry; brother: Eric Madsen; and brother in-law: James J. Valko.
A visitation will be held in the Devlin - Gatcha Funeral Home, 517 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 9:30 to 11:00 am.
A private family service will follow.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Mary's Franciscan Shelter, 209 Emmett Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460.
