Joseph A. McFarlane
March 19, 1925 – December 30, 2023
Joe was a great storyteller with a wide breadth of historical knowledge. After serving on Okinawa in the Army Air Force from 1943 to 1947 he met and married Emily, the love of his life. Joe worked as a manufacturing engineer at General Electric for much of his career and later for Biddle Instruments. He held several patents and developed the soldering technique used on satellites in the U.S. space program during the 60s and 70s.
Joe was a devoted husband and father with a deep and abiding faith in God. He served others in many capacities: as a Eucharistic minister and lector at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church for 20 years, a volunteer tax preparer at the Phoenixville Senior Center, and a member from 2004 and Chairman from 2017 of the Phoenixville Zoning Board through September 2020. But his greatest commitment was to his family, especially his wife Emily, for whom he tenderly cared during the 15 years of her debilitating illness.
Joe will be missed by his children Dennis, Timothy, and Jeffrey McFarlane, and Mary (McFarlane) Richards, his brothers and sisters Jim and Agnes McFarlane, Connie (Quicker) and Phillip Collura, his dear and devoted friends Ron Provencher, Beth and Monte` Deyo, and Lisa and Jim Farrell, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 20 nieces and nephews. Waiting to greet him in Heaven are his wife Emily (Quicker), parents, Edwin and Catherine, sisters Kathleen, Therese, and Ann, and five grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass in St. Ann Chapel, 604 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11:00 am.
Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.
A viewing will be held in the Chapel on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Food for the Poor at (link is given below) or any charity of your choice.
