Joseph M. Keegan, 95, of Phoenixville, PA died on Thursday, March 12, 2026, after a brief illness. Known as Joe to many but Mike to family, he was born on December 21, 1930, in Fernandina Beach, FL Mike was the son of Margaret C. Keegan who raised him as a single mother together with his older and beloved brother, Jim (James J. Keegan, late of Gardnerville, NV). Mike was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, during which he served a tour of duty in Greenland. Following his military service, Mike attended Villanova University from which he was a summa cum laude graduate. In 1958, he married the former Sheila F. Sullivan to whom he was married for 62 years until her passing in 2020.
Mike completed his career in Federal service in 1993 in Naples, Italy and was previously based at the Fleet Material Support Office in Mechanicsburg, PA for many years and formerly in Washington, D.C.
Mike was extremely well read and continuously pursued his journey to expand his knowledge and understanding throughout his entire life. He enjoyed lively discussion and debate, and in his later years, expressing himself through writing verses and sharing them with family and friends. Mike travelled the world extensively and lived with his wife, Sheila, in Italy, a favorite destination they returned to many times. Mike was always an active person and lived a long life enriched by his commitment to fitness and healthy and enjoyable nutrition.
Mike is survived by his children, Michael J. Keegan, husband of Kimberly Keegan; Christopher J. Keegan, husband of Audrey Keegan; and Patricia E. Keegan, wife of David Biddison. His oldest child, Sheila M. Keegan, predeceased him in 2025. Mike is also survived by Evan, Julianna and Elyse Keegan, children of Chris and Audrey; and Saige Biddison, daughter of Tricia and Dave.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, 2330 Kimberton Road, Phoenixville, PA on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. A visitation will be held in the church on Saturday from 9:15 to 9:45 A.M. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken PA.
