Joseph Evasew

December 28, 1924 — February 25, 2019

On February 25th, 2019 at the age of 94, Joe departed his earthly life in the manner in which he had always hoped; peacefully in his sleep, in his own home, knowing he was deeply loved by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Although born in Cedar Hollow, Joe grew up on Church Street in Phoenixville, graduating from Phoenixville High School in 1943.  He joined the Army on December 28, 1948 and was honorably discharged a year later.  On May 14th, 1955 Joe married Phyllis Capoferri of Royersford.

Joe built his home on Sycamore Lane in 1960/1961 on property granted to him by his parents.  Together, he and Phyllis raised their five children on the “farm”.   Along with raising children, Joe and Bob Cabot raised steer and an occasional pig. Joe also enjoyed bowling, golfing and hunting in his younger days. Gardening, fishing and building bird houses kept him busy in later years.  He fished almost every day and in every fishing hole in and around Charlestown – despite the no trespassing signs.

A proud tool and dye maker by trade, Joe spent most of his career working for J. Ross Miller & Sons in Kimberton.   He retired in 1989.

More than anything, Joe loved his family. He was a simple, hard working man and wonderful father and grandfather. We will forever miss his teasing “because he loved us”, the “Evasew” shuffle down the hallway, the scratching of his palm or the crooked finger pointing when he was not pleased. We will remember him in his tattered gardening attire but most certainly not that wheelchair.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Phyllis (Feb 22, 1991), his son Stephen (Oct 4, 2005), and his siblings Martha, Al, Anne, Pete, Mame, Madge and Sophie.

He is survived by his sister Helen, his children, Robin Cini (Dennis), Joan Vance (Peter Lea), Susan (Renee Hashinger), Michael (Kim); his eight grandchildren Hilary, Kristen (George), Thomas, Rachel, Andrew, Meredith, Mitchell and Lillian; his adopted grandson, Ray; his seven great-grand children Isaiah, Carter, Joseph, Arabelle, Hailey, Ella and Gabriel. He is also survived by his long time love and companion, Hannah.

A very special thank you to Rachel and Ray for caring for Pop Pop for the last seven years.  It was your sacrifice that allowed him spend his last days in his beloved home and for that we are all eternally grateful.
