Janine J. Jonik

Janine J. (Wyszynski) Jonik, 89, of Kimberton, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2026. She was the beloved wife for over 68 years of the late Robert J. "Bob" Jonik, who passed away in 2025.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, on August 20, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Roman and Frances (Kowalski) Wyszynski. Raised in an era of scarcity, Janine learned early the values of hard work, resilience, and creativity—traits she carried throughout her life and passed down to her children. She was a proud graduate of the Hallahan Catholic School for Girls, Class of 1953. Janine worked as a secretary to a public accountant before having children, and later worked as a secretary for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

A woman of deep and enduring faith, Janine was a dedicated parishioner of St. Basil the Great Roman Catholic Church for over 56 years, where she attended Mass each week by her husband's side. She held a tender devotion to the Blessed Mother, emulating her virtues through a life of continual prayer, profound humility, and a generous love that extended to all. Rooted in purity and a quiet grace, she walked through life trusting God's plan, daily reciting the Rosary to lift up those in need. In her gentle way, she was a source of endless comfort, softly reassuring others with her favorite words of guidance: "You can and you will," "This too shall pass," and to always "Offer it up for the love of God."

Janine was a resilient three-time cancer survivor who triumphed over multiple diagnoses in the 1980s and 1990s. During those trying times, she and Bob channeled their focus into renovating a family home in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia, choosing purpose over despair. Blessed with an extraordinary tolerance for pain, Janine bore her health battles in silence, never wanting to burden others. Instead of focusing on her own struggles, she selflessly apologized to loved ones for causing them worry or taking up their time. Her profound will to live flowed directly from her desire to care for her husband and family. Despite facing lifelong physical challenges from her extensive medical battles, she quietly hid her suffering behind a comforting smile, heroic patience, and a gentle sweetness. Her quiet endurance remains a deeply inspiring reflection of true strength.

Janine was a beautiful light who touched everyone she met, leaving them in awe of her kindness and genuine interest in their lives. She had a unique way of making each person feel exceptionally special, safe, and deeply cared for. Completely selfless and boundlessly generous, she exuded an unconditional love—whether tenderly caring for aging family members or welcoming neighbors and friends with open arms.

As a mother and homemaker, she created a warm, welcoming environment centered around family, where no one ever left feeling hungry. She created lasting memories with hearty homemade meals and traditional Polish foods that are a treasured part of her legacy. To her family, she was their adored "Babci" or "Great-Babci." She cherished every moment spent playing games, reading, and keeping up with her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's milestones. Saying goodbye always involved multiple rounds of warm farewells, with Janine walking her guests all the way out to their cars to wave them off safely. Her generous spirit, sharp memory, and capable nature remained with her until her final days.

She is survived by three children: son, Joseph R., husband of Beverly Jonik; son, Robert A., husband of Theresa Jonik; and daughter, Janine Jonik Birmingham. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and her brothers, Raymond Wyszynski and Joseph Wyszynski. She was preceded in death by her son, James R., husband of Gwen Jonik; her grandsons, Tad Jonik and Thomas Jonik; her sister, Sabina Grill; and her brother, Walter Wyszynski.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, 2340 Kimberton Road, Phoenixville, PA, on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A visitation period will be held in the church prior to the mass from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be held privately at Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken, PA.
