Helen Dzuryachko

August 15, 1916 — October 31, 2016

Helen (Philipanics) Dzuryachko, wife of the late Andrew M. Dzuryachko Jr. of Mont Clare PA and Cumberland MD passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Monday October 31. "Mrs. D" recently celebrated her one hundredth birthday on August 15th.
Born in Phoenixville on Puddlers' Row, Helen moved with her parents and siblings at a young age to their small farm in Mont Clare. She met her husband and the love of her life in their church. Married in 1936, they welcomed three children into their lives, Helen Marie (Joseph Keiser) of Perkiomenville, Andrew III (Noel) of Ponchatoula LA and Mary Rose (wife of the late Richard Martin) of Cumberland MD.
"Nana" will be forever missed by her family, including her ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and ten great-great (!) grandchildren.
In addition to her parents Michael and Pauline, Helen was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael Jr, George and Ernest Philipanics, also two sisters, Anna Pufko and Pauline Sierzega. She is also survived by a dedicated family friend, Charles Norris of LaVale MD.
Helen was a kind and generous woman with a heart of gold. She had a gift for baking and cake decorating, creating beautiful wedding cakes and themed birthday cakes decades before this became a popular trend. Her apple pies and crumb cakes (does anyone really know that secret ingredient?) were second to none. She enjoyed cooking and shared her comforting ethnic meals with family, friends, neighbors and strangers in need.
For many years Helen was active with the St Michael's Ladies Auxiliary and also the Mont Clare Fire Company Women's Auxiliary. Helen was the oldest living member of St Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, Mont Clare. A deeply religious woman, Helen shared and remained strong in the Faith throughout her life until her death at Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care, Cumberland MD. During her years with the caring staff of this exceptional facility they grew to love her as she loved them.
A funeral liturgy is scheduled for Saturday, November 5 at 10 a.m. at St Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, Amelia and Landis St., Mont Clare. A viewing will precede the liturgy from 8:45 to 9:45, also in the church. Burial in St Michael Cemetery will follow the services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, 203 Jacob Street, Mont Clare, PA 19453.

'Well done, good and faithful servant...enter into the joy of your master.' (Matthew 25:21)
