Ernest T. Derkas, who celebrated a remarkable century of life, peacefully passed away at home on August 20, 2025, at the age of 100. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (Wolf) Derkas and resided in East Nantmeal.

Born on July 11, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ernest was the cherished son of Peter and Josephine (Kimmage) Derkas. He dedicated a part of his life to serving his country as a member of the United States Air Force during World War II. Following his military service, he built a successful career as an Engineer at Unisys in Paoli.

Earning a reputation as a passionate car enthusiast, Ernest spent many hours volunteering at the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles. His love for automobiles began in his youth, as he helped his father in the family auto shop. Additionally, he delighted in sharing his musical talents as a member of the Russian Balalaika Orchestra. He also obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying his plane out of Butter Valley Golf & Airport in Bally, PA

Ernest is survived by three devoted children: Karen, wife of Ted Rainsford; Kathy Gwillim; and Lynn, wife of Mitch Mitchell. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren: Ian Gwillim, Morgan Gwillim, Danielle, wife of Andrew Propst, Emily Rainsford and Francisco Valladares, Melissa, wife of Matt Lebet, Jeffrey Mitchell, and Ashlee Mitchell. 4 Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alexander Derkas.

The family will announce services at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, located at 85 S. Walnut Street, Boyertown, PA 19512. Ernest's life and contributions will be fondly remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
