Elizabeth S. Hanebury

Elizabeth Stager DePierro Hanebury, of Phoenixville, passed away on August 15, 2024. Born on January 7, 1930, to the late Russell and Lela Stager in Montclair, NJ, Betty resided in Chester County, PA, for 90 years. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John "Jack" DePierro and James "Jim" Hanebury, son, John DePierro, and son-in-law, Glen Philips. She leaves behind two daughters, Linda (Ron) Yarnell and Sue Philips, 14 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Betty expressed her creativity through various arts and crafts. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, and painting — spending countless hours hand-making gifts for others. Her hidden-Kiss ornaments were always a Christmas tree standard. She, however, did not conceal her knowledge of and experience with crafting but spent time teaching others how to develop their skills. Her daughters remember their mother using her talents to mend everyday clothes and to create one-of-a-kind formal wear for their high school dances.

Betty’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren have Christmas memories of creating elaborate gingerbread houses under her watchful direction. She took pride in a well-executed gingerbread house, but she took much greater pride in celebrating the successes of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A service celebrating Betty’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Devlin-Gatcha Funeral Home, 517 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460. Interment will follow at the East Vincent United Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. is planned at the funeral home.
