Elias "Lou" Varvarezis

Elias "Lou" Varvarezis, 54, husband of Melissa (Shine) Varvarezis of Green Lane, PA passed away from complications of porphyria on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Born on August 26, 1970, Lou was the son of Dimitrios and Vasiliki (Vortsis) Varvarezis. He grew up in Drexel Hill, PA and earned his Bachelor's degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. While serving as a local pharmacist, Lou met his wife, Melissa, when she randomly came in for a flu shot. They were married in 2011 and enjoyed the next 14 years together.

In addition to his love for Melissa, Lou was an avid astronomer. An active member of the Delaware Valley Amateur Astronomers Club, Lou was also Chair of the Astrophotography Group. He was always excited to catch a glimpse of an eclipse or astral phenomenon and share his passion with other budding astronomers. He also enjoyed teaching others how to use a telescope and capture astronomical imagery.

Lou will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor, love of music, entertaining friends around the grill, and of course pointing out all of the incredible wonders in the sky.

He will be missed by his wife; his parents; sisters Alexandra Varvarezis and Venetia (Bill) Rumsey; and many cousins, friends, and fellow astronomers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Lou in the Devlin - Gatcha Funeral Home, 517 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Porphyria Association at porphyria.org/donate.

In memory of Lou, fire up the grill, play some Rush, and spend some time gazing at the night sky.

“Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings in heaven where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are always with us.” Shine brightly, Lou.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Porphyria Association at porphyria.org/donate or to Saint George Antiochian Church at saintgeorgeupperdarby.org/donate.
