David Pennell

David R. Pennell, 58, Retired New York State Trooper, died on Tuesday, November 15, 2016.

Born on February 1, 1958, in Arlington,VA, he grew up in Spring City, PA, and was the son of the late Franklyn D. and Ruth E. (Robinson) Pennell.

David was a graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School, class of 1976. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Alvernia College (University) in 1979, and was a graduate of New York State Police Academy in Albany, NY in 1980. He was a New York State Trooper from 1980 to 2000.

Following his retirement from the New York State Police, he worked as a Deputy Sheriff, Berks County, PA; later as a Security Officer at Lockheed Martin, Valley Forge; last working as a Probation Officer for the New Mexico Corrections Department, Santa Fe, NM.

David was an avid outdoorsman and hunter who enjoyed hiking and fly fishing, taking many trips to Pulaski, NY for the annual salmon run. He was also passionate about physical fitness and took part in numerous half marathons and 10k runs throughout NM and CA. A long-time Philadelphia Eagles and PSU football fan, he always made a special point to seek out people with similar interests and took the opportunity to promote New Mexico tourism and hatch green chilies to everyone he met.


Surviving are son, David R. Pennell of Nashville, TN, daughter, Mary E. wife of Jake Litzenberger of St. Louis, MO, along with many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Graveside Service in St. Ann Cemetery, 305 W. Pothouse Road, Phoenixville, PA, on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 am.
