Bette G. Rountree

Bette G. (Halsey) Rountree, 81, of Flagler Beach, FL and Brandywine Creek Campground, Marsh Creek, PA passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023.  She was the wife of the late W. Vance Rountree.

 

Bette worked as an administrative assistant for Wellington Financial Management Co. in Chesterbrook, PA until her retirement in 1997. After retirement, she and her husband Vance had their dream home built in Flagler Beach, Florida, where they spent their time in retirement living their best life! They would spend their summers in PA at their RV in Beechwood campground and later in Brandywine Creek Campground near Marsh Creek Lake to be near family and would retreat to their paradise in Florida at the first sign of winter moving in!

 

Bette was very active in Florida with her church, Flagler Beach United Methodist Church, where she played the organ and piano for many years. She served with the Church Women United of Florida as State President, State Assembly Chair and Area 4 Chair for many years. Bette and Vance founded and ran the Bunnell Area Food Bank soon after moving to Florida. Bette continued to run the food bank for many years after Vance’s passing in 2007. She was also active with Farm Workers United Group, United Methodist Women and the Pebble Beach Village Homeowners Association.

 

She is survived by four children:  Kathleen wife of Michael Smith, Brian husband of Helen Debus, Patricia Youse and Kenneth husband of Joy Debus; two step sons: Wycliffe husband of Gaye Rountree and Wallace husband of Donna Rountree; seven grandchildren:  Nicole Bani, Kevin Debus, Ashlyn Youse, Kristen Rountree, Nicole Rountree, William Rountree and Emma Rountree.
She was preceded in death by two brothers:  Thomas Halsey and Robert Halsey.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Devlin - Gatcha Funeral Home, 517 Main Street, Phoenixville, PA  on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 11:00 am.   Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.  A second service will be held at Flagler Beach United Methodist Church at a date in November to be determined.
