Ann Bearden

October 10, 1934 — February 4, 2016

Ann M. (Burton) Bearden, 81, wife of Fred Bearden, of East Coventry, PA, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Manor Care Pottstown. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Isreal and Nonie (Mitchell) Burton. A 1952 graduate of Phoenixville Area High School, Ann also attended Pierce Junior College. She worked at Valley Forge Army Hospital as a Payroll Specialist, was one of the first black bank tellers at Phoenixville Industrial Valley Bank, and a Budget Analyst for the U. S. Air Force at Lockheed Martin in King of Prussia, PA. Ann was an active member of Grimes AME Church where she served as Church Clerk, Church Historian, Church School Superintendent, Finance Committee, Missionary of Annie Cooper Missionary Society, and Secretary of the Lay Organization. She also was a member of The Philadelphia Conference Branch Missionary Society and Philadelphia Conference Lay Organization member and registrar. She was one of the founding members of the Phoenixville Area Progressive Club (PAPC.) Surviving in addition to her husband are: daughter, Dana F. Frierson (David Sr.,) and son Michael A. Bearden, Sr. Seven grandchildren, Sergio, Starsha, David, Dylan, Michael, Chanel, and Maya and two great-grandchildren, Aleeyah and Jayden. Also two sisters, N. Carmita Burton and Vanessa S. Burton. As well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brother, Marshall Burton and sister, Marilyn Williams. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service at Bethel Baptist Church, 412 Fairview Street, Phoenixville, PA, on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Morris Cemetery, Phoenixville, PA. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.
