Roy D. Cannon

February 21, 1934 ~ April 8, 2019 (age 85)

Roy Dale Cannon, a long time Phoenix Steel employee and resident of Phoenixville, PA, passed quietly, surrounded by those he loved on April 8, 2019.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Caroline (Viola-Cutillo) Cannon, and is survived by many, including two brothers, Poe Cannon and Bob Cannon of Boyds Creek, Tennessee, four children, Sharon Marie Cotherman-Cannon (Dan Cotherman), Rosalie (Cannon) Wild (Robert Wild), Roy D. Cannon, Jr., and Richard D. Cannon (Tracy Cannon).  Eight grandchildren:  Shawn Smith, Brian Smith, Tara Caroline Cannon, Justin Kelly Cannon, Rachel Mary Cannon, Amanda Lynn Burr, Zachary Steven Cannon, and Gary Martin.  Eight great-grandchildren:  Cheyenne and Serenity Smith, Braydon and Carson Smith, Christian Martin, Eleanor Burr, Reese Cannon, and Juniper Cannon.

Roy was born on February 21, 1934 to Rosa Lee Violet and Kelly Cannon of Campbell County, Tennessee.  He was raised on a farm on the banks of the Powel River, which was eventually swallowed up and displaced by the TVA and accompanying damns and lakes.  The family then settled, moving the house along with themselves, to the banks of the French Broad River in Sevier County, Tennessee.  On a small 60 acre parcel, Roy and his six brothers and sister, cleared the land and worked the farm along with their parents.  Roy eventually left, or some say escaped, the hard work of the farm and volunteered for service in the Army serving in the Korean War where he served as a Staff Sergeant and Medic.  Wounded in battle he returned home and was transferred to the Valley Forge Army Hospital outside Phoenixville, PA where he met his wife to be of 51 years.  Roy was an avid fisherman, hunter, and general outdoorsman, and enjoyed gardening, country music, and watching his family thrive.  Roy, in the Cannon family tradition, was fiercely independent up until the day of his recent passing at the age of 85.

A private viewing and funeral will be held at Devlin Rosmos Kepp and Gatcha Funeral Home on Thursday, April 11, 2019.
